I plan on writing more articles about china and their efforts to “go green” over the next couple of months. Why focus on China? Becase they have a population around 1.5 Billion (with a B) and are easily the worlds larges industrial nations (and one of the biggest carbon footprints around).
I have come accross many articles recently talking about China going green including a nice write up by Michael Kanellos at greentechmedia:blog – Is China Going Green or Not.
The articles specifically discusses China’s move to solar energy:
“We expect hundreds if not thousands of megawatts to follow,” he said. The U.S. market will likely explode next year and China will follow after that, he predicted.”
The crux of the issue on whether China will indeed go more green centers around the issue of economics of course. While China, and especially the Government, see huge potential and profits in “green technologies”, ordinary citizens may not be willing to make the sacrafices needed to make the switch.
“But if going green would hamper growth, even average Chinese citizens will probably balk. The changes in lifestyle that have occurred due to the rising economy will be too big to swallow.”
I guess only time will tell how China decides to move forward.
Let us know what you think about China and their efforts to go green.
