Since I am a huge hockey fan AND run this website about going green, I was very interested to see the following article:
NHL going green for Earth Hour and beyond
I have to admit that “hockey players” don’t usually come to mind when thinking about the going green movement, but it looks like they are getting in the swing of it too. There is even a game that is being rescheduled to take part in “Earth Hour”.
According to the article:
“Many NHL players are already on the green bandwagon as well, all in an effort to reduce the league’s carbon footprint.
Anaheim Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer drives a hybrid car and reuses grocery bags, and Canucks defenceman Willie Mitchell has invested in wind-powered electricity for his home.
Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara carpools when he can’t ride his bike across town, and teammate Andrew Ference eats organic food for his pre- and post-game meals.”
These actions may not seem like a big deal, but they do fall right in line with our overall idea that small, consistent actions can make a huge difference.
So now when I watch hockey I can say that I am “going green” as well.
